Flutter and Wow Gets US Release
Posted October 23, 2009

This week Archer Records gave a US release to Flutter and Wow, the label debut from songwriter and master of keyed instruments, Charlie Wood. The 12 track LP features 7 brand new originals from the undisputed king of soulful Memphis B-3. More than just a great piano and organ player though, Flutter and Wow showcases Wood's ability to craft lyrical material that proves instantly timeless, as well as his uncanny knack for creating stirring new arrangements for tunes from classic 20th century songsmiths like Paul Simon, Leonard Cohen, Elvis Costello, and more.

The US release follows the UK release of Flutter and Wow back in May. Since then, Charlie has lived in London and toured around Europe, performing this year in the UK, Scandinavia, Italy, and Spain. The record has received favorable critical attention, with MOJO giving it 4 stars and calling it a "grade-A natural beauty." Charlie has also found a home on radio stations across Europe, and recently was given a coveted recording session for the Paul Jones show on BBC radio. Building on these successes, Archer has released the album domestically this week.

Whether delivering satirical social pathology ("Doin' the Blah, Blah, Blah"), transparent and affecting emotional outpourings ("What You Will"), or thought provoking lyrical tomes ("American Tune", "Everybody Knows"), Flutter and Wow incorporates Wood's sharp wit, instinct for the perfect arrangement, and unpretentiously sophisticated style. Joining Wood on the record is friend, producer, and guitarist Adam Levy (of Norah Jones fame). While both in Europe at a songwriter's retreat, the two formed a bond that carried over and proved invaluable to the recording process. Adam's insights helped "strip away all the non-essential elements in a performance and help me to convey the real message of the song," mused Wood.
